Evergreen has recently become a registered Recolight recycling point. This means we are part of a new scheme trying to reduce the environmental impact of fluorescent light tubes. Although it seems a relatively niche area of recycling, over 100 million fluorescent light tubes are sold in the UK alone every year.

Despite being a highly encouraging statistic in terms of energy use, as fluorescent light tubes can consume up to 80% less energy than other light sources, the substances these lamps contain – including dangerous chemicals dangerous such as cyanide and mercury – can be very damaging to the environment when they are sent to landfill and the chemicals leak out.

As a Recolight recycling point, Evergreen is now able to dispose of these tubes in a manner which doesn’t damage the environment, with the tubes’ materials being recovered so they can be used again. Examples of this re-use include the crushed glass, which can potentially be used to make new lamps, and the normally damaging mercury, which can also be used in new lamps or other industrial processes.

This picturesque area of woodland is set in the Dundry Hills and plays host to many different species of plants, including but not limited to square stalked St. John’s wort, oak trees, and ground shrubs such as dog’s mercury.

In our continuing effort to environmentally streamline our process, we have started using Simpac’s Peel & Seal tamper evident paper sacks. The fact that these sacks are made of paper means we don’t even have to open them to dispose of your confidential waste, we simply put the bag, as you gave it to us, into the shredder, making your information even more secure.

What does this means for our clients? Well, it allows us to provide a service that’s not only more secure, but more environmentally sound, as recycling the bag as well makes our process almost 100% waste free! These new bags also allow you to be certain that your information is totally secure, without even our workforce having the chance to look at it.

That is why we have invested in a mobile shredding unit, for those who would prefer to have their confidential waste shredded at their own work-place.

It’s really easy – we come to you with our new state-of-the-art mobile shredder and shred there and then, while you watch if you want.

Once again we shred documents to a size which exceeds British and European to produce high quality shredded paper (free of paper clips, staples etc.) Under cover, back at our warehouse in Avonmouth, this is baled and transported for recycling to Kelmsey paper mill in Kent, one of the most technologically advanced paper mills in Europe.

Not only do we save 1500 trees each week by recycling the shredded waste, but we plan our transport routes very carefully to minimize our ecological impact.

And to help reduce our carbon footprint further Evergreen is also now supporting the Woodland Trust, the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity, by dedicating a quarter acre of trees at Mannings Wood, East Dundry near Bristol.
